Unless you’ve been there, this is probably a new term…take a look at the top left image…these lights are installed throughout buildings and only turn on in case of power loss or fire alarm. So yes, they are important and must be installed. But do they need to be so ugly? No! Encourage your electrical engineer to specify aesthetically pleasing emergency lights in high-profile areas (provided they are coordinated with your preconstruction estimate) and make sure they include internal battery backups. Another option, if the building has a generator large enough for emergency lighting, put some standard light fixtures on an emergency circuit so they will remain on via the generator if power is lost, which eliminates bug lights altogether! And while you’re at it, upgrade your exit signs as well!!
