Yes, it is a good idea to drain a canopy through a pipe and into a stormwater system rather than slope the canopy to drain away from the building which creates a drip line from the canopy edge to the ground below.  With a little coordination the pipe can be sized appropriately for the size of the canopy and the pipe can be hidden/concealed.  This photo includes two pipes, both much larger than needed, and the pvc pipes are just painted.  The building looks nice and the materials used on the facade are expensive, why cheapen the main entrance with painted pvc pipe drain for the canopy???
