In the business of developing communities, the design process often lasts for years. But even after all that time, plans can change during construction – whether due to owner preference, a local jurisdictional authority, or inadequacies in the design documents. These changes are just like throwing a small pebble into a still pond: they create ripple effects that distract the team from their core objectives. You can avoid these “ripples” during construction by: 1- Ensure the design documents are complete and coordinated prior to construction start, 2- Coming up with a solid plan to proactively address jurisdictional changes, and 3- Encouraging owners to minimize their own self-inflicted changes. Remember that complexity creates issues. Always aim for simplicity.
